Did you know how much you would miss skating rinks? Yea, us either…

When I contacted the sweet owner about going skating last Saturday, she advised us that the 2pm-4pm skating would be quite busy due to three birthday parties. So by the time that we explored Kilgore and ate a delicious (filling) meal, 7:30 was sounding a whole lot like nap time. But we laced up and in no time forgot how tired and full we were!

We are here to tell you skating is just as much fun as you remember! Getting older though… You’re a bit more sore over the next couple days, haha!

We got the girls ready and let them get a feel for the rink before we laced up. They have these awesome “locked” skates for sweet Abigayle, our novice skater. Seri on the other hand is a Roller Skating Boss!

They started in the center circle with the rest of the kiddies just starting out. I think this is an awesome concept, because next to the 10 year old skating professionals the adults were even a bit intimidated, haha!

After a half hour, Seri was zipping around the rink and we decided to let Abi have a try on four rolling wheels..

However.. after much trial, wipeouts, frustration, pep talks, tears & kisses, we threw in the towel and let her have her locked skates back. We were thankful for this option!

Once we all found our stride, there was no stopping us!

They had games like limbo and racing by ages and even a dance party towards the end. I mean kids were actually super excited to be on the rink showing off tricks and not glued to their phones, it was wonderful.

About 9:30 PM they made an announcement that the Snack Bar was closing and would sell the remaining hot dogs for .25 each. As you can see, the girls had worked up another appetite!

One of the best parts about our whole experience was the overwhelming feeling of family and community being here. Everyone knew everyone and they were all so incredibly KIND! Both employees and skaters offered encouragement, tips and kind words to the girls. This is definitely an instance to not judge a book by it’s cover!

Before we left, the owners granddaughter even gave the girls bears that she won from the claw game!

We will most definitely be back!

THINGS TO REMEMBER

  • Socks
  • Phone / Camera
  • We recommend to leave everything else in the car, you won’t want to have to keep up with anything else and your shoes are in a cubby behind the counter.
  • Layers (if it’s cold outside) because you’ll want to shed them after a couple rounds.
  • Cash
  • Go potty first! (You’ll be laughing, falling, and clenching if not haha)

WHAT THEY OFFER

  • BIRTHDAY PARTY PACKAGES
  • HOCKEY
  • SKATING LESSONS (THURSDAYS)

ALL OUR LOVE,

The Adventurers!
